History

Giant Steps / Innocent Bystander is owned by Phil Sexton.  Phil moved across Australia in 1997 when he sold his Devil's Lair vineyard (Margaret River) to start all over again in the Yarra Valley, where he could pursue his passion for restrained Chardonnay, cool climate Merlot / Cabernet blends and of course, Pinot Noir.  Phil's 75-acre vineyard, now 10 years old, is a beautiful north facing hillside site alongside one of his winegrowing mentors, Yarra Yering.  Giant Steps wines are produced from Phil's own vineyard and other long-term contracted vineyards.  First released in 2001, Giant Steps wines are a faithful expression of site, vintage and culture.  Innocent Bystander wines were released in 2004, produced from the many brilliant vineyards within the Yarra Valley and beyond.  Drinkable, approachable wines are what our winemakers like to think of them as, oh and "a bloody good drink".
