History
Located in Victoria’s Yarra Valley, Shantell is a small vineyard and winery situated in a picturesque hillside setting at Dixons Creek, just 60 km from the heart of Melbourne. The 16 hectare undeveloped property was purchased in 1980 by Shan & Turid Shanmugam and the first thousand vines planted in spring of 1981. From these modest beginnings, Shan & Turid now have 10 hectares of vineyard planted to the premium quality grape varieties Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Semillon.
The substantial brick winery was built in 1987. 1988 saw the first ten tonnes of fruit crushed under the Shantell label. Today the winery is a well equipped modern facility and the now fully matured vineyard provides the winery with a high quality fruit source. Quality in the bottle starts with quality in the vineyard. The Shantell range of wines is all estate grown and estate made. |
